FAQs
We’ve only ever been in the state system. Is Leehurst Swan the right place for us?
Absolutely. Many children join us from local state schools. Families often choose Leehurst Swan for our smaller classes, individual attention and strong pastoral care. We guide all parents—whether familiar with independent education or completely new to it—through every step of the process.
How do I arrange a visit?
You are welcome to visit during the school day to see lessons and school life in action. We also host Open Mornings in the Autumn and Spring, and an Open Evening in the Summer. Please contact our Registrar, Mrs Rosie Orchard, to arrange a personal tour.
How big are your classes?
Our class sizes are typically up to 18 pupils, ensuring that every child receives individual attention and support.
Can my child try the school before we commit?
Yes. Most applicants attend a taster or assessment day, during which they join lessons, meet staff and get to know other pupils. For Year 7 entry, children sit our entrance assessment.
How do I apply?
Simply request and complete a registration form from our Registrar. Once this is received, we arrange the appropriate taster/assessment day. If we offer a place, you will then be invited to complete the acceptance paperwork.
Is there a waiting list?
Some year groups are full. If you have a preferred start date or year of entry, early registration is advisable. We can advise on current availability when you enquire.
Do you offer wraparound care?
Yes. We provide supervised care from 07:30 to 18:00 every school day, which is particularly helpful for working families.
What transport options are available?
Our minibuses run from Shrewton, Durrington and Amesbury, with an additional service collecting from Salisbury railway station.
How do new pupils settle in?
We welcome pupils throughout the year and are very experienced at supporting children who join from other schools. Each child is paired with a buddy, teachers check in regularly and our pastoral team ensures a smooth transition.
What does the curriculum include?
Our curriculum is broad, balanced and academically stretching, combining strong core subjects with excellent creative arts, sport, languages and enrichment opportunities.
What sports, clubs and activities do you offer?
We run an extensive programme of after-school clubs, sports teams, music and drama opportunities. Many clubs are included in the fees, and activities change termly so that pupils can explore new interests.
How will I be informed about my child’s progress?
You will receive written reports twice a year and attend parents’ evenings in the Autumn and Spring. Teachers and form tutors are approachable and available to discuss your child’s progress at any time.
Do you offer support for additional learning needs?
Yes. Our Learning Support Department offers individual and small-group assistance. Small classes make it easier to identify needs early and tailor teaching to each child.
My child lacks confidence. How will you help them?
Pastoral care is central to life at Leehurst Swan. We take time to understand every child, nurture their strengths and support them through challenges. Many families say their children grow significantly in confidence shortly after joining.
Will our family fit in?
Leehurst Swan is a friendly, down-to-earth community with families from a wide range of backgrounds. Many parents are new to independent education, and our staff ensure that everyone feels welcome.
Are bursaries available?
Means-tested bursaries are available each year. Our Registrar can explain the process and guide you through the application steps.
Who can I speak to after my visit?
Our Registrar, Mrs Rosie Orchard (01722 333094), is your key contact for admissions and is happy to answer any questions. We can also arrange for you to meet the Head or speak with other senior staff if you wish.
Can I talk to a current parent?
Yes. Many of our parents are willing to share their experiences. Let us know, and we can arrange for a parent to contact you.
