Independent Co-Educational Day School
We are delighted to announce that Leehurst Swan has been awarded the Silver Artsmark!
Awarded by Arts Council England, designed by schools, Artsmark aims to help schools to deliver a high quality arts and cultural education.
Being part of Artsmark gives our school access to exceptional resources as well as networks of the country’s most treasured cultural organisations.
The Artsmark Council commented that 'As a Silver Artsmark School Arts Council England celebrates your commitment to arts and cultural education and the opportunities emerging across your provision. Your children and young people are offered equal opportunity to participate in a diverse range of arts and cultural experiences and you recognise the importance of development opportunities for your staff in these areas. You understand the value of working with arts and cultural organisations and are developing partnerships to enhance your provision. Your children and young people have an opportunity to develop their knowledge, skills and understanding of arts and culture and you are working to build on the foundations of your provision.'
David Liversage remarked ‘We are delighted to receive this public recognition of the achievements within the arts and aim to continue to provide excellent quality opportunities for pupils to engage with the arts in the future.’
Leehurst Swan’s guiding principle is that art should transcend the walls of the traditional art room and be included, where appropriate, right across the curriculum. Art, music, drama, dance and design technology will be increasingly used to inject exciting cultural meaning into projects throughout the school. This then can inject vitality into the community and be a source of pride for our pupils and their friends and family.
This year saw a series of events and exhibitions which were inspired by this commitment to the arts.
From the two art exhibitions, the first in Salisbury Medical Practice which displayed the results of the ‘Space’ project, and the second at Five Rivers Leisure Centre, where we displayed a cross-section of art from around the school and from different year groups. The highly successful Salisbury Schools Art exhibition in February themed ‘A Library of Ideas’ involved many local schools. We also ran Artshop for schools in Salisbury and Leehurst Swan took an active role in this, displaying artwork in two shops windows for a fortnight in June.
