Independent Co-Educational Day School
Junior Wessex Athletics' Championship 2018
Saturday 9 June 2018 - Walhampton School
On Saturday, we kicked off with an early start, 0830hrs, leaving school for the first of three big athletics events this week.
Junior Wessex Athletics Championships is for Y3-5 pupils, and it is keenly contested by lots of school, this year being no exception with 25 schools in attendance.
The Leehurst Swan team did brilliantly. There were lots of good results and personal improvements in both times and distances.
David did especially well in the 800m. Against top opposition, he held is own to make them work for the top prize, David finished 4th.
Libby ran well in all her events. In the relay race she shot out of the blocks to fly round the first bend leaving the other girls in her wake.
Oli won his heat in the boys 75m sprint. The U10 boys 4x100m relay team had a really good race in a very quick heat, just failing to make the final. The team was Oli, George, Jack and Ethan. The same was to be said for the girls U10 relay team, of Libby, Samar, Lottie and Phoebe.
Rufus jumped well in the Long Jump, finishing in the top half of the field. Emily also had a good day competing in the Long Jump, and Rounders ball throw.
It was a good day for the pupils who will have learnt from this 'daunting' event. There were lots of school, lots of athletes and it was a fun challenge for anyone. But they will all be better for next year and raring to go.
Well done to all.
A lovely day, except for the odd shower of rain, and a big thank you for all the parents who came to support.
