Former Head Boy Talks about Pupils' Opportunities

17-09-2017

On Friday 8 September, we had the pleasure to welcome back Chris to Leehurst Swan. Chris held a Business Briefing for Years 10 and 11, discussing politics as well as the transition from school to A Levels and further education.

Chris is a former Head Boy, who spent 12 years with us at Leehurst Swan. Chris went on to study A Levels at Bishop Wordsworth’s School before spending part of his gap year volunteering with Operation Raleigh in Tanzania. Currently, Chris is enjoying studying Politics at Birmingham University with a view to joining the Royal Navy, or entering the diplomatic service.

"Supportive teachers"  "Firm friends"

Looking back fondly at his time at Leehurst Swan, Chris remembers lovely and supportive teachers; lots of fantastic trips; and making friends, two of whom he met in Reception and Year 7 at Leehurst Swan and who continue to be firm friends of his to this day.

"Take advantage of every opportunity that the school has to offer"

When asked about what key advice he had for pupils in Years 10 and 11, Chris was quick to say:

* Take advantage of every opportunity that the school has to offer. For example, the work experience Chris did through school later paid off handsomely when he needed a part time job. Even one of the PSHCE lessons, which covered planning for a gap year, helped with the preparation for his work with Operation Raleigh in Tanzania.

* Pick the subjects at A Level that you most enjoy, as many people do not end up having a career necessarily related to their subject choice.

The Business Briefing was a taste of possibilities for the future, and Years 10 and 11 enjoyed Chris’ talk, as well as the muffins!

Chris has said he will come back again to visit us and we very much look forward to it.
