New Hall

Leehurst Swan is embarking on a new School Hall.  This is Week Eight showing our progress to date.  Each year group will contribute to this ongoing project as part of their education.

Interesting Facts

65-70 Lorry loads of excavated materials were removed from the school site, each lorry carrying 20 tons.   This was taken to various landfill or quarry sites depending on the nature of the material removed.

14 Giant galvanised steel stanchions forming the supporting skeleton of the building were erected.

120 m3 of concrete and 56 bolts were needed to secure them.

£10,000 - the price of the amazing theodolite (surveying instrument) used for measuring the horizontal and vertical angles.

Over the past few weeks we have watched the building site progress through many stages, from the majestic construction of steel work to digger’s convoluted ways. Now as each brick is placed the long awaited for hall is now coming together.    Sarah Kuzsynski 7Y

As I have watched the building grow and improve through the stages this year, I have seen JCB’s and lorries coming and going in and out of the building site. They have now started putting bricks and insulation down on the concrete. You can now get a view of how the building will finally look.     Theo Rattue 7Y

I have been watching the building work being done and I think its fascinating how they fill the Gambians (metal cages) with stones to make walls. I am looking forward to seeing the finished building.   Imogen Passam 7X

Over the past month I have been watching the hall being built. It is fascinating seeing each layer slowly being built up, making it look more like a hall! I can not wait until the hall is finished.   Rosie Drury 7X

Like some monster coming out of the deep, the new building has evolved from a dozen metal posts, to bricked up rooms. The diggers have done an amazing job of scooping, piling, scraping and flattening. They have the endless job of changing the buckets on the digger from small, deep, wide and thin.  I can’t wait to see it at the end.   Cameron Stott 7X
