Year 4 pupils were invited to the official opening of the Laverstock board walk information board. The pupils produced 32 plaques altogether on the theme of wildlife which are mounted on substantial tree posts sunk into the ground. Two information boards have been erected to describe what wildlife you could expect when walking along the board walk by the river Bourne.

The work started 18 months ago and has involved visits to the location and farm and our pupils producing lots of drawings, paintings and prints in order to scan and reproduce them to create the information board.

The chairman of Laverstock Parish council opened it after a speech made by Steve Hannath (formally clerk to the Parish council). The children were very excited and all ran to find their own ceramic plaque and have their photograph taken (each one is spaced about 30 feet away from each other). Fortunately the weather was fine and we all then went back to the River Bourne community Farm for Tea and cakes.

Please feel free to go and have a look for your selves!

There were Neolithic houses that have been recreated and the children were shown how people lived at this time.

English Heritage aim to build similar houses at the new Stonehenge Education Centre and by the end of this year hope to create a fun, educational and immersive experience for visitors.

The children had great fun learning how to make fire, use rushes to plait into rope bracelets and look at the objects used in a home.

The children arrived back at school smoky and wet but agreeing it had been an amazing morning.

Pupils from Years 5 and 6 welcomed boys and girls from the Ecole de L’Argance, a village school near Le Mans, France. Pupils had the chance to complete questionnaires and the French pupils were given a tour of the school. They had the chance to use one of the art rooms, go out at playtime to play football or chat and also had a go at some high jump in the gym. The pupils brought with them sweets as gifts for our pupils and also biscuits and wine for the staff from their region of France ( Pays de la Loire). We also gave them sweets and a Lehurst Swan ruler each as a memento of their visit, before they went to see Stonehenge and Old Sarum. It is hoped that we can exchange letters or e-mails as pan pals in the future.
