Year 5 & 6 Concert – Songs of World War II

y5-6-4y5-6-3y5-6-1

y5-6-2

The songs of World War II were about optimism.  They needed to be, for World War II was harder on the civilians and Forces of Britain than any other previous  War.  Yar 5/6 concert is to commemorate the outbreak of World War II 70 years ago.  The pupils performed songs for the era, both well-known and more obscure.

If ever the power and importance of music was evident, it was during the dark days of World War II.

IAPS Wessex Junior Athletics Championships

This event held at Hordle Walhampton School and was the first year of entry for Leehurst Swan who took a team of Year 4 and 5 pupils.

Twenty six schools took part in the Championships.

Tara King ran her 75m sprint heat in 12.1 seconds which put her through to the final with the second fastest time in all the heats.  The fastest time being 12.0.  In the final Tara ran her personal best of 11.8 which saw her finish 2nd.   The winning time was 11.6 seconds.

The Y4 boys relay team ran well and did very well with their baton changing but unfortunately they were not quite quick enough to qualify.  Thomas McFarland and Eleanor Kuszynski produced a very encouraging performance in the 800m but it was two Y5 boys who really showed promise in this event George Woodford White ran a personal best of 3 mins and 20 secs and Pippa Shakerley ran her heart out to produce a personal best of 3 mins 10 secs.

Elliot Penny came 4th in the Yr 4 Long Jump with a personal best of 3.39 metres.

Very well done to all the pupils.
