Year 4 Pupils at Leehurst Swan School visited St Mark’s Church as part of their RE course work on religious buildings.

The pupils were allocated groups; Church furniture, Positions of the contents of a church, the Lady Chapel and the silverware and robes. Each group was provided with a work sheet. The children rotated around the groups.

The whole experience was worthwhile as the children had the time and opportunity to study a church at close hand without being too timid to move and chatter. They thoroughly enjoyed themselves.

Visit to World 1 Battlefields

The History and French Departments at Leehurst Swan School ran a successful trip to the World War I Battlefields for Years 9 and 10. 46 students and 5 teachers stayed in a chateau adapted for students near St Omer.

The trip was, as usual, a combination of moving visits to cemeteries and trenches (in various states) and lighter events such as shopping in Albert market , Ypres and St Omer. Five of our students laid a wreath in honour of the fallen during the Menin Gate ceremony and several were able to visit the graves or plaques containing the names of relatives. Mr Appelbee was finally able to lay a wreath in honour of his Uncle Tommy, who was killed in 1916.

Year 3 Visit Wilton House

Year 3 pupils visited Wilton House last week.  It happened to be the 64th anniversary of the D-Day Landings.  We were shown into the Double Cube Room where it was planned.  We had lovely weather for our picnic in the grounds.

Mrs Leach and Mrs Smith dressed in 1940’s costume and Mrs Walker and Mrs Ford dressed as Land girls.
